Check Ins

What is a Check-in

A check-in in the context of building a team or enhancing a relationships refers to a regular session or communication where team members take a pause, notice what is true for them at the moment, and share their progress, challenges, insights, or ideas with one another. The purpose of a check-in is to:

  1. Foster communication: Check-ins provide an opportunity for team members to openly and regularly communicate with one another, letting go of the role of hierarchy. In a check-in sessions, every person has a chance to input. (see Handout for sample Check in questions)

  2. Improve alignment: Check-ins help ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goals.

  3. Enhance collaboration: By sharing updates and ideas, check-ins can facilitate collaboration and increase team members' understanding of each other's work.

  4. Address challenges: Check-ins provide a platform for team members to bring up any challenges or roadblocks they are facing, allowing for early identification and resolution.
