Dorian will share the essence of what she has learned about the power of listening from her decade of high effectiveness teams consulting work and her work with Otto Scharmer of the Presencing Institute. Then most importantly (it wouldn’t be a practical without some doing, right?) we will try out some listening practices together.

Everything and everyone is part of ecosystems of interdependence. Complexity is the secret code of the world. But you don’t have to experience it as chaos. Seeing and learning how to map system dynamics and their patterns is a first powerful step for any change agent.
The word “system” can too often bring to mind mechanical or computer systems. By system, we are referring to social systems, family systems, power and influence systems. We each belong to multiple systems in visible and invisible ways. The success of any change initiative will be constrained by how much or how little you are able to first see and assess the systems that surrounds the change and then intervene in ways that help reshape and evolve those systems. We must not simply address symptoms of systemic inadequacies, but look at the structures, habits of thought and identity dynamics that can energize or constrain our fullest potential.
